Bradley Sunnarborg "Heroic Vehicles"
Trebuchet (An attempt to capture the breathlessness of the first day, the first kiss, if only for a 3 second flight) 1998
Steel, steel mesh, plastic, fabric 18x26x13 ft.

Climb inside the wire capsule, strap yourself in, pull the lever and fly 100 ft. up and 100 ft. out. So far this catapult is untested - a monument to potential energy locked down - but there is nothing to stop it from working. There's no doubt the flight would be breathless; it's the landing that might get messy. The whimsical, poetic title is the feather that counterbalances the sheer weight of the sculpture, a characteristic relationship that continues throughout this exhibition.
