John Olsen's exhibitions have considerable resemblances to the "cabinets of curiosities" that were created in many places in Europe of the Renaissance as predecessors to the many different museums we have today. These were relatively systematic collections of specimens, designed to illustrate the knowledge we then had of the nature of the world.
