Kensang lives in a small village about fory-five kilometers from the Tibet-Nepal border on the "friendship highway" between Kathmandu and Lhasa. The cave where the sage Milarepa spent many years of his life meditating is very near this spot. Shortly after I took this photograph two heavily armed Chinese soldiers suddenly appeared. They began shouting angrily and tore up several sheets of my used Polaroid backings.
