"I think the way people look at me is too narrow. I can be curated as a bad girl, and being a gay woman is a fashionable thing - but there's lots of stuff in the work besides castration.

I think if you look at the whole body of work, which is the way I think it makes sense, and start treating the little doodles the same as the big paintings, it becomes clear that my art isn't primarily about politics. It's not issue art; I don't feel angry. I think it mainly has to do with the nature of humor and of taking everything - the whole world - as your subject matter, and trying to understand how it works. Everything is fair game."
