"Terror and exuberance" are the words that Troy Halterman uses to describe how he felt when he opened TROY, his home furnishing shop on Greene Street. He had spent a year traveling the world looking for items distinct enough to carry in the store, seeking special pieces that needed a home. The guidelines for his excursions were simple: following no rules Halterman hand-picked everything, going by his gut reaction. He succeeded in finding things of beauty usually overlooked and undiscovered. For Halterman, TROY's real treasures are the superb crafts-persons and artisans whose attitudes and designs parallel his own unpretentious life philosophy.

Halterman strikes a balance between contemporary and period pieces. This captivating mix allows him to present functional objects that enhance the home. After studying many different cultures, design styles, and periods throughout his travels, Halterman feels that Denmark's furniture from the 1940's and 50's is pure, unique, and expressive of the Danish aesthetic and their proven affinity for design.

Looking to once again chart new waters, Halterman introduced his own collection of home items designed exclusively for TROY in the spring of 1997. The collection encompasses his philosophy of minimal style and everyday utility.
